Bicycle Advisory Committee of the City of Los Angeles
Advocacy and Education Sub-Committee Meeting Agenda
Ronald Meyer, Chairperson of Advocacy and Education Sub-Committee
Tuesday, September 8, 2020, 7:00 p.m.
Zoom Call Information at end of Agenda
My wish is that you all are safe and healthy.
My plan is to hold our A&E meetings every two months. The next two meetings are November 10, 2020 and January 5, 2021
In the meeting we need to decide on some important issues concerning the Advocacy and Education Committee:
1. Call to Order and introductions.
2. Public Comment on non-agenda items.
3. Mission Statement. What is it and where/whom do we send it to?
4. What projects should we undertake since we have no financial resources: a. Stronger website and Internet presence? We need to donate a total of $120 to help pay for the yearly expense of the website. Yes, actually all CLABAC members should kick in $8.
a. Outreach at schools and neighborhood councils? Are you comfortable standing in front of students and adults? We can help you.
b. Outreach to your local councilmember? It has probably been a long time since you visited or spoke to anyone in the office especially the Field Deputy and Transportation Deputy. Some really nice folks in each of our CD offices.
c. Bicycle training (How to ride a bike, rules of the road (Local and to give us some guidance.
d. Gather some bicycle riding materials that are interesting (maps, rules of the road, bicycle repair instructions) that can be handed out at bicycle events like CicLAvia, Colt Ride, L.A. River ride, and any other local events.
e. Group bike rides? Not certain we can do this because of liability issues since we are representing City of Los Angeles.
f. Create newsletter?
g. Hook our wagon to Active Transportation folks? Discuss which of the stickers designed by Quirino you like the most?
h. Should be get closer to the e-bike and e-scooter folks? If yes, what is the objective/advantage?
i. What would you like seen done in your Council District?
5. What kind of help could you use to make you feel more comfortable contacting folks in your District? We need to be more pro-active, not just attend Zoom meetings.
6. Have Michael Schneider (StreetsforAll) give us some ideas and training? He has a ton of experience compared to the rest of us. Same goes for Eli Kaufmann. They have experience and we don’t have the luxury of time to reinvent the wheel.
7. How to get LADOT more involved to get us bike lanes? Some funding?
8. Any other ideas that you want to share, let me know before the meeting so I can create an updated agenda.
9. Any old business that needs to be reviewed?
10. Adjournment
Next meeting planned for our standing date of third Tuesday, odd numbered months would be: November 10, 2020.
